Community Forum Tuesday June 30 - Corvallis

The OSU Office of Community and Diversity will sponsor a forum,

 "Making Corvallis a More Welcoming and Inclusive Community," 

on Tuesday, June 30 from 2:30 to 4:00 pm at the Corvallis Library, corner of 6th and Monroe.

 

"Several organizations and individuals have indicated that they would like to make Corvallis a more welcoming and inclusive community for all people, but no plan is currently in place. Please take the time to be part of a community forum to help us go from theory to reality."

Portland Lavender Womyn Gatherings

The Portland Lavender Womyn gather twice a month.  First, we have the Beaverton Area Event, which occurs on the 3rd Wednesday of every month at Panera Bread Bakery-Cafe.  Then, there's the Eastside Boomer's Sunday Brunch, which occurs on the last Sunday of every month at Old Wives' Tales Restaurant.  To find out more about these two events, click here.

MCC Sweet Spirit of Salem - Closing its doors

It is with great sadness we report that Salem MCC Sweet Spirit is closing it's doors after 32 years of service. The last service is Sunday, June 28th at 11 AM. They will also hold a picnic on July 5th at 11 AM at Bush Park. MCC Sweet Spirit has always been an important part of our community and will be missed by many. Here is Bonnie's note to all:

 

 

 

Hello everyone,

 

By now, most of you probably know Sweet Spirit MCC is closing it's doors on June 30th. The reason being we do not have enough funding nor enough people in our congregation.  Last year when the congregation split we gave ourselves a year to grow. We didn't grow enough. To clear up a myth I want to inform you that MCC headquarters does not give us money. Some people seem to think they should be supporting us and buying us a church., It does not operate that way.

 

June 28th will be our closing ceremony and on July 5th at 11 AM we are having a picnic at Bush Park inviting all those who have attended in the past to join in the celebration of 32 years in the Salem community. 

 

I write this with a sad heart as I know a lot of people have come and gone from our little church. I just wish more would have stayed.

The meeting with consist of sharing for those who wish too and talking about the upcoming Pride Festival on June 27th (many thanks to Chelsea and Tristan who have been the main organizers). We are looking for people to volunteer at the Pflag booth and we are encouraging all those that would like to march behind the Pflag Banner!! This sure is exciting to have Corvallis first Pride event and there will be things for all ages to enjoy.

First Annual PRIDE Corvallis

This year’s PRIDE festival will be held in Central Park.  The weekend will kick off with the Stonewall Social and Dance on Friday, June 26th.  Then Saturday, June 27th activities will start with a parade at 11am and will be followed by a full day of musicians, storytelling, dancing, face painting, children's activities, vendors, a non-profit expo, and much more.

Schedule of Events for Saturday, June 27th

11:00am - 12:00pm PRIDE Parade
Participants will meet at the parking lot on the corner of Monroe and 11th/ Campus way, and will proceed in a loop down campus way to Jefferson, taking a left on 7th to disband into Central Park where the festivities will continue.

12:00pm - 8:00pm PRIDE in the Park  -

• Musical performances featuring Johanna, Soromundi Lesbian Chorus of Eugene, Confluence LGBTQ choir, Malachi, Tirade, Mollycoddle, and more.
• Entertainers
• Children’s events
• Vendors
• Non-profit expo

7:00pm - 11:30pm Rainbow Rave - a 21 and under dance hosted by Out N About Youth and the Community of Welcoming Congregations

10:00pm - 2:00am PRIDE After party hosted by Platinum Night Club

10:00pm - 12:00am Big Gay Karaoke at the Vibe coffee shop

There will be free food (hamburgers, hot dogs, various salads and condiments). There will be several carnival games including a dunk tank, "Cream a Queen", and a ring toss.

 ISCWE is planning a great time and have invited other groups to take part. The Capitol Forum will be selling GLBT Pride items, 4th of July items, and hopefully hand painted Frig Magnets from Thailand - AND who knows what else we can come up with (ideas and donations of items welcomed).

The Imperial Sovereign Court of the Willamette Empire is a non-profit organization that does fund raising for various charities. They have ranged from Muscular Dystrophy, Meals on Wheels, YWCA Breast Cancer and various AIDS programs. Read more at their website: http://www.iscwe.org/
