The Exhibition
The Faces of Salem exhibition is being created with a view to engaging the wider community in exploring the diversity of ethnic cultures that surrounds us in our daily lives.
While World Beat Gallery exhibits are typically produced directly with partners from specified cultural communities, the Faces of Salem exhibit offers the opportunity for everyone to connect with the topic of ethnic cultural heritage and seek creative ways of expression. Deadline for all photo entries Friday, April 15, 2011. More information: facesofsalem@salemmulticultural.org
Ways To Get Involved
As a Project: Schools, colleges and youth groups and individual amateur and professional photographers are all invited to embrace the exhibit as a project for themselves and their students. See guidelines for full details, and come to our workshops.

Saturday, April 9
SMI has scheduled monthly workshops to help all interested parties meet and learn from each other, become better educated in the methods and processes of documentary photography, and understand more about how to capture compelling images, and write associated narrative. In these workshops photographers from all backgrounds and experience levels will be invited to show their Faces of Salem work in order to receive feedback and encouragement. This is meant to be a supportive environment that will help all participants grow as documentaries. Workshops are led by Phil Decker.
Held at the Capital City Theater
2nd Floor of the Reed Opera House,
189 Liberty Street NE, in downtown Salem

Subject Photo Release Form (only one per family or subject needed)
As a Community member: If you have a fun photograph or snap shot that you have taken that you would like to share with us, we are also running a photo contest alongside the more in-depth project. This competition is for fun, and we encourage you to submit any photograph you feel tells a good cultural heritage story. Photos received will be displayed as a part of the exhibit. These photos cannot be returned and should be sent to the SMI offices. Please read the full guidelines for all details.
