I recently had a teenager ask about support groups for kids her age. I would imagine there are probably many teenagers out there looking for the same thing, yet may be afraid to ask. Therefore, I thought I would post some of the resources the women gave to her. Here they are:
Out 'n' About meets Thursday evenings at First Methodist Church in Corvallis, at the corner of 11th and Monroe. It's led by Tristen Shay and Chelsea Whitlow, a young couple who are also the chief organizers of Pride Corvallis. http://out-n-about.org/
http://www.kboo.org/node/18192 - KBOO’s The Other team is a queer youth radio show and they have lots of great resources on each show. They are in Portland, but there is outreach to other communities.
Crescent Valley’s Gay Straight Alliance has a Facebook page, more info here: http://www.facebook.com/posted.php?id=6245898281#/group.php?gid=6245898281&ref=share
Corvallis High’s Gay Straight Alliance also has Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=28198668431
Just Out Magazine (available online at http://justout.com/) has lots of info/resources.
Pride Corvallis has links to all of the upcoming events and group meetings in town. http://www.pridecorvallis.com/
OSU’s LGBTQQIA Resource page is probably your best link to all things going on around campus (many of which are open to high school students) - http://oregonstate.edu/lgbtqqia/index.php
Camp Ten Trees (an LGBT summer camp) - http://www.camptentrees.org/
I hope this helps our young folks out there looking for support and a place to fit in. Of course, you are always welcome to attend any Lavender Womyn event.
