Women's health care in Oregon is under attack. This Wednesday, Oregon legislative committees will hold public hearings on two bills that could change the future of women's health care in our state. We need you to join us in Salem to unite with activists from across the state and demonstrate opposition to the anti-choice agenda. It is absolutely critical that we have a strong presence at the Capitol to counterbalance our opponent...s and demonstrate to elected officials that Oregonians do not want politicians interfering in private, personal medical decisions. Meet us in the Rotunda at 1:30PM! The Rotunda is on the first floor-- it's the big open marble lobby in the North Side of the Capitol building. |
Below are brief summaries of the bills:
HB 3512 bans abortions even when a woman's health or life are at risk. This bill has a misleading and overly narrow "medical emergency" provision that fails to adequately protect the health or safety of the woman, even in a life threatening situation. The bill requires women to risk their lives carrying a pregnancy to term that might or might not even be viable.
SB 769 requires Crisis Pregnancy Centers in Oregon to clearly disclose the services provided while keeping client records and medical/personal information confidential. Passing this bill is a priority for us because of how many women have been deceived at these centers. Despite having the appearance of an actual medical facility, CPCs provide very limited service and are not required to adhere to medical privacy laws established to protect patient safety.
