Recently, two local queer youth groups, Rainbow Youth and Chemeketa Community College Queer Allies for Change, have come together with the help of the Service Employees International Union and begun planning for a large benefit yard sale for both their organizations. Rainbow Youth serves the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, and allied youth of Marion and Polk counties. Rainbow Youth is a registered non-profit organization that is wholly supported by the generous gifts from those who understand and appreciate the importance of investing in youth.

Donations help to provide safe and supportive weekly group meetings facilitated by a trained adult, craft nights, leadership and wellness retreats, fun activities such as "gay skate,” an evening meal for the youth and so much more. Queer Allies for Change is a student founded and governed organization at Chemeketa Community College in Salem that caters to the LGBTQQA population of Chemeketa CC. They offer social gatherings for students as well as work to promote a safer, more inclusive campus climate to benefit the Chemeketa student body. SEIU members will also be distributing literature and raising awareness for marriage equality in the state of Oregon.
The sale will be hosted Saturday, October 15th in the SEIU parking lot in downtown Salem at 1730 Commercial St. SE from 8 AM to 4 PM. Volunteers will be at the SEIU building the evening of the 14th from 5-8 PM to receive donations. Additionally, on a limited basis, we will also arrange pick up for larger items such as furniture on Sunday, October 9th. We are seeking item donations including but not limited to; gently used quality clothing, winter wear, Halloween costumes, furniture, baby items, sports equipment, DVDs, CDs, books, working electronics, etc. We do reserve the right to decline donations. All donations are tax deductable and receipts will gladly be written for those who would like. Unsold items will be donated to Helping Hands and other local charities after the sale. If you would like to arrange a time for an item pick up or want more information, feel free to contact us at queeralliesforchange@yahoo.com or post on the event wall.
We are looking for donation items, as we can't have a yardsale without stuff to sell! So let us know what you've got! All donations are tax deductible and we will be writing receipts for donations. Spread the word; invite your friends
